The BKtoLA contemporary improvisational session was recorded in real-time, connecting musicians from Brooklyn, New York, and Los Angeles.
Swiss Chris (on drums) hosted the session from his home studio in Brooklyn with a standard home internet connection (wired into the router) and a two-channel Focusrite Scarlett interface for the session I/O device.
Surya Botofasina (on keys) joined the session from New York with a standard WiFi home internet connection and an aggregate device combining a Focusrite Scarlett interface with a virtual sound card for the I/O device. Utilizing the Groove-link routing matrix, the keyboard inputs were routed through Logic Pro X, and the output from Logic Pro X was routed to Swiss Chris as a stereo feed on two peer-to-peer connection channels.
David Hakpyan (on bass) joined the session from his Los Angeles studio equipped with a mid 80's Soundtracs CMX 4400 console with Apogee Symphony MK II audio interface. The connection with Swiss Chris was refined to 4 peer-to-peer channels of audio.
The peer-to-peer latency between Brooklyn and New York was 14 milliseconds.
The peer-to-peer latency between Brooklyn and Los Angeles was 47 milliseconds.
The drums and keyboards' incoming feeds from Brooklyn and New York and the bass input from Los Angeles were routed directly in Pro Tools as separate inputs for real-time recording.
